Water and recreation

Kings Lynn shipping

King's Lynn's proud maritime history means the town has strong bonds with the sea. Learn about its relationship with the sea at the Green Quay discovery centre.

As well as being able to relax by the river at Yours South Lynn, areas alongside the River Ouse in King's Lynn town centre have been landscaped to allow people to relax and take in the views of the wide estuary.

The sea provides a playground to enjoy and a location for a variety of sports, from sailing and jet skiing to the excitement of windsurfing. A short distance up the coast, Hunstanton offers some of the best conditions in the country for these popular sports.

There are a number of sailing clubs and schools in the area. Hire a dinghy or enjoy sailing lessons - clubs are happy to work with people from novices up to experienced sailors wanting to brush up their skills.

Seals on a pebble beach

Nearby Brancaster Staithe is a vast area of coastal habitat noted for its varied birdlife, while further up the coast Blakeney National Nature Reserve is a dynamic undeveloped coastal area offering a long sand and shingle spit, fine sea views, wide open skies and the opportunity to watch seals in their natural habitat.

Neighbouring towns also have much to offer. Along the breathtaking North Norfolk coast beautiful towns such as Wells-next-to-the-Sea, Cromer, Brancaster and Heacham offer a relaxing and slow-paced experience. Hunstanton is a traditional seaside resort - complete with donkey rides, ice cream parlours and amusement arcades. It also has the Oasis Leisure Centre, a fun-packed water park complete with aquaslide, giant inflatables, floats and a jacuzzi.

For those who prefer peaceful pastimes, the North Norfolk Coast and Countryside provide ample opportunities for cycling, walking, bird watching and fishing,
