Construction techniques

Building site of new homes being built

Yours South Lynn has harnessed modern methods of construction (MMC) to deliver tangible benefits both to our consumers and to the environment.

MMC may or may not involve the manufacture of components off site but it will certainly involve greater application of processes more akin to manufacturing than traditional construction - for example quality control, component pre-assembly and very good quality supervision.

MMC makes use of more effective materials, speeds up housing delivery, enables high standards of design quality and can help to reduce resource consumption. It is increasingly regarded as a means of improving quality, reducing time spent on site, improving on-site safety and overcoming skills shortages in the construction of housing.

New homes, both during construction and during occupation, can have a significant impact on the environment including:

  • Contributing to climate change
  • Using energy
  • Pollution associated with transport use
  • Using embodied energy
  • Using ozone-depleting substances

At Yours South Lynn we have ensured that all our building materials are sourced where ever possible from sustainable supplies identified in the Green Guide to Specification to achieve our EcoHomes Excellent rating. In addition, we have ensured that the building products and techniques which we have employed in constructing our properties have reduced the embodied energy of our properties to less that half of that used in building comparable new homes (new homes currently under construction approved to the Building Regulations 2002).
